African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says the party has begun rolling out its election campaign strategy, with a strong emphasis on the organisation itself rather than individual personalities.
Mbalula was briefing the media on the ANC’s local government action plan, outlining how the party intends to reconnect with communities and rebuild trust ahead of the polls. He indicated that the campaign would prioritise grassroots engagement, service delivery issues and strengthening internal structures at municipal level.
South Africa is expected to hold local government elections later this year, with the voter registration weekend already scheduled for June. These elections are seen as a key test for the ANC as it seeks to retain control of several municipalities while improving its performance in major urban centres.
Mbalula added that the party aims to appoint mayors who are ethical, capable and results-driven, with a clear focus on improving governance in metros. He stressed the importance of selecting leaders who can address service delivery challenges, stabilise municipal finances and restore public confidence in local government
