The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has confirmed that it has opened a criminal case against a woman seen in a viral video allegedly removing the party’s campaign posters in Margate on the South Coast.

Spokesperson Sifiso Sonjica has told Gagasi FM News that every political party is entitled to campaign freely, and that the removal or damage of campaign posters undermines this right.

He says the party expects law enforcement authorities to investigate the matter and take the necessary action.

The ANC has called on political parties and their supporters to respect one another and allow all parties to campaign without interference ahead of the local government elections.

“In all places across the province where we install our posters, they are removed by the following day. That shows that it is a deliberate act and there are people who remove them.”

“So we view this as a dangerous act because it reflects an election that is not free and fair,” said Sonjica.

The ANC raises these concerns with just two weeks to the election, due to commence on the 4th of November.
