Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille has dissolved the South African Tourism Board, citing procedural irregularities in how a recent special board meeting was convened.
The move comes after Minister de Lille gave board members an opportunity to provide written explanations on why the board should not be dissolved. In their responses, she said, members failed to clearly explain the legality of the procedure followed in calling the meeting.
According to the Tourism Act, the Minister has the authority to dissolve the board if there is evidence of misconduct, incompetence or failure to comply with governance regulations. The department has not yet confirmed whether an interim board will be appointed or when a new board will be constituted.
