The Policy and Advocacy Manager at the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Yolan Nagoor, has urged the government and the private sector to align their plans, protect local industries, and invest in the youth.
Nagoor was speaking at the SA Youth Employer engagement in Umhlanga, north of Durban.
The event aims to give employers a platform to connect and explore ways to access and develop youth talent more effectively through the SA Youth platform, while supporting broader economic inclusion.
He says the Chamber has long advocated for increased opportunities that drive economic development and growth in the Durban region.
“If the government creates a favourable business environment, there will be more job opportunities. As we convene here, we bring together wealth, expertise, and experience. You, our distinguished attendees, represent the forefront of industry, and it is through your insight and collaboration that we can shape a resilient and sustainable future.”
Nagoor added that the Chamber continues to promote opportunities that allow young people to thrive in the current business environment.
He said the programme aims to ensure that young people are equipped with the skills, expertise, and access to finance needed to participate meaningfully in the economy.
“As part of this package, we host recognition programmes to celebrate achievements across key sectors, as we believe this will inspire continued growth and excellence. In addition, we offer access to HR specialists who consult on behalf of our members to provide expert guidance,” he said.
