eThekwini Municipality Economic Development and Planning Committee Chairperson Thembo Ntuli says the Hollywoodbets Durban July is proof that meaningful economic growth can be achieved when government and the private sector work together.

The City is hosting the media launch of the Durban July Experience in Shongweni, west of Durban, as preparations gather pace for one of South Africa’s biggest sporting and social events.

The 130th edition of Africa’s most prestigious horse racing spectacle will take place on 4 July at Greyville Racecourse in Durban.

Ntuli said the event is expected to provide a significant boost to the local economy, with several sectors set to benefit from increased visitor spending and tourism activity. These include the hospitality, accommodation, transport, retail and entertainment industries.

He added that major events such as the Hollywoodbets Durban July not only showcase Durban as a premier tourism and events destination but also create business opportunities, support jobs and contribute to broader economic development across the city and the province.
