The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) is urging all voters to participate in a nationwide survey assessing their satisfaction with the country’s elections.
The survey will be conducted through interviews with voters at selected polling stations across the country on the day of next Wednesday’s Local Government Elections.
This survey is on behalf of the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC).
HSRC spokesperson Alfred Thutloa says the study aims to assess voters’ knowledge of the electoral process and their level of satisfaction with it.
It will also evaluate how effectively the IEC has organised the electoral process.
“The survey consists of a representative sample of 300 voting stations that have been selected countrywide. At at each voting station, 50 randomly selected voters will be interviewed throughout election day,” said Thotloa

The IEC reported in August 2026 that the voters’ roll had surpassed 29 million registered voters. During the final registration weekend, 291,806 people registered for the first time, while existing voters inspected or updated their details.
