The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry is expected to submit its interim report to President Cyril Ramaphosa today.
The report will not be made public.
Phase one of the commission focused on allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. These include claims of political interference within the South African Police Service (SAPS), the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team, and alleged corruption involving the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department.
Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said President Ramaphosa will study the evidence and findings contained in the interim report before deciding on the release of the commission’s final report.
The Madlanga Commission was established to investigate serious concerns about the independence and integrity of law enforcement agencies, as well as allegations of political influence undermining criminal investigations. Its findings are expected to have significant implications for policing reforms and accountability within the criminal justice system.
