KwaDukuza Municipality mayor, Siduzuzo Gumede says investing in municipal infrastructure benefits both the council and the community as he celebrates the new look council chambers.
Gumede said this following the completion of a R30-million facelift and upgrade of the municipality’s council chamber.
He has also applauded political parties governing the municipality for putting their differences aside and working together to serve the community.
As of September 2026, KwaDukuza Local Municipality is governed through a coalition led by the African National Congress.
The ANC governs this municipality along with the Econmic Freedom Fighters (EFF), the African Transformation Movement (ATM) and the African Independent Congress (AIC).
Together, these parties hold 34 of the municipality’s 59 council seats, giving them a majority.
The mayor said the growing number of members in the Executive Council made it necessary to upgrade and redevelop the chamber to ensure a conducive environment for council business.
“This is great work that has been done by the councillors working together. They all managed to work in good collaboration with the city managers and the contractors,” said Gumede.
He continued,”Today we are happy that are going into this building regardless of the fact that we will not be here for long. We are going to enter and have our meetings because it is important that we continue engaging and discussing the needs of the community.”

As KwaDukuza heads into the upcoming local government elections, the municipality is set for intense political contestation, with parties vying for control of the key north coast municipality.
