The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Social Development has dismissed what it describes as false information circulating on social media, claiming that President Cyril Ramaphosa has instructed Minister Nokuzola Tolashe to open registrations for a so-called “National Family Support Allowance” valued at R1,682 for three months.
The department says it became aware of the viral misinformation over the weekend.
KZN DSD spokesperson Sandy Godlwana says no such programme exists within the department, adding that there is no new cash allowance and no registration process linked to any “National Family Support Allowance”.
Speaking to Gagasi FM, Godlwana said the message is a scam designed to mislead the public and potentially steal personal information through fraudulent links, particularly targeting the elderly.
