Mayor of uMhlathuze Municipality Xolani Ngwezi has made an impassioned plea to the police, requesting for no stone to be left unturned following the brutal murder of two women in Mkhoma Reserve, Nseleni, North of KZN.
This is after a mother and her daughter were gunned down inside their home by unknown gunmen.
A third victim sustained injuries during the same attack and was rushed to hospital for medical attention.
Mayor Ngwezi has since led a delegation of pastors and councillors to the home of the bereaved family to offer support and comfort.
Speaking during his visit, Ngwezi said,” We urge the police to investigate and leave no stone unturned for the suspects to be found.”
“We are here as the municipality, the office of the Speaker of the KZN legislature, the deputy chairperson of the religious council, Dr Ntuli and the local chief to provide our support to the family. We are also here to hear how we as local leaders can help this impoverished family.”
Gun violence continues to torment communities in KZN as cases of murder through guns are frequently reported throughout the province.
A little further down the coast of KZN in KwaMakhutha, a township South of Durban, police reported and confirmed 14 people who were gunned down, 11 of which lost their lives on the scene and three left wounded.
As of Friday, the fatality rate of that incident rose by one more person, as a 12th person has been confirmed to have lost their life while battling survival in hospital.
The Premier of KZN, Thami Ntuli along with the KZN SAPS have urged communities to anonymously report and provide police with tip offs with information related to such cases.
