The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has declined to confirm whether its evidence leader, advocate Terry Motau, has reportedly requested to leave the commission.
This development comes less than two weeks after the inquiry commenced on the 17th of September.
Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels says they will not publicly discuss internal staffing matters.
He adds that the commission is squarely focused on its job, to conduct an inquiry into the gravely serious allegation flagged by KZN police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi that South Africa’s law enforcement agencies have been infiltrated and unduly influenced by criminal syndicates and drug cartels.
Meanwhile, former President Thabo Mbeki has praised Mkhwanazi for his bravery in revealing the skeletons of criminal syndicates and politicians in the country.
Speaking to journalists in Durban over the weekend, Mbeki says he believes the Madlanga Commission will fully unveil the state of the criminal justice system in the country.
