EFF leader Julius Malema has demanded the immediate subpoena of KZN Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi to appear before Parliament’s ad hoc committee probing police corruption
The committee is considering changing its terms of reference to allow it to get evidence from other witnesses before Mkhwanazi, who is listed as the first witness to appear.
This comes as he is set to appear before the Madlanga Commission next week. Malema says Parliament cannot play second fiddle to the commission.
“You must decide whether you want Mkhwanazi before the committee or you do not want Mkhwanazi before the committee. And if you want Mkhwanazi before the committee in the times for preference, there are mechanisms to get Mkhwanazi into the committee.
Mkhwanazi told you ‘I’m not coming to you’, even before there was an actual date of the committee, that’s how junior you are. You have turned this committee into a toothless body”, said malema.
