The Department of Basic Education is urging schools, parents and learners to take the necessary precautions amid high temperatures and adverse weather conditions affecting parts of the country.

This comes as matriculants are still writing their National Senior Certificate examinations.

The department’s spokesperson, Terrence Khala, says learners are also reminded that while preparing for examinations, taking care of their physical and emotional wellbeing is equally critical.

“Now the matric examination can bring with it considerable pressure and anxiety and indeed no learner should feel that they have to navigate these challenges alone.”

“Now parents, educators and communities are encouraged to check in regularly on learners with offering reassurance as well as creating a supportive environment to allow them to remain focused and confident,” said Khala.

He adds that confidential counselling and emotional support is available for learners.
