Legal expert Sizwe Cele says that the newest developments in the KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi matter around interference of political figures at The South African Police Service will not have any bearing on the soon to get underway Commission of Inquiry.
He says that although they relate to the matter at hand, they do not affect the proceedings set.
His comments come as the country awaits in anticipation the resumption of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry into allegations of political infiltration at SAPS at this hour.
This was birthed by KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in July this year when he made the allegations which he accused his boss Senzo Mchunu who is on special leave and General Shadrack Sibiya of interfering with the political killings task team.
While this happens, Forensic Investigator Paul O’Sullivan took to social media to allege that Mkhwanazi is not a saint by saying he and the National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola are involved in the unlawful expenditure of 35 million rand on luxury vehicles.
O’Sullivan further accused Mkhwanazi of being involved in criminal activities, running a hit squad and corruption which has pushed the PC to sue him for defamation demanding R5 million in damages.
The commission is not investigating allegation made by O’Sullivan, it is investigation claims made by KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in terms of political interference. So other issues has got no bearing on the commission/on the work of the commission,” Cele weighs in.
