Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, who is facing several serious charges, is expected to appear before the Pretoria North Magistrates Court today for a formal bail application.
Nkosi is accused of unlawful possession of explosives, three counts of failing to safeguard firearms and ammunition, and defeating the administration of justice. His arrest followed his controversial appearance before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is probing allegations of political interference and infiltration within the justice system.
He appeared before the commission in connection with his alleged links to underworld figure and businessman Vusumuzi Matlala, widely known as “CAT”. The inquiry has been examining relationships between law enforcement officials and individuals suspected of involvement in organised crime, raising concerns about the integrity of key institutions.
Proceedings on Friday also heard testimony relating to the relationship between suspended Tshwane Metro Police Department deputy chief Umashi Dhlamini and Nkosi. The commission continues to unpack the extent of these connections, as well as their potential impact on policing and the broader criminal justice system.
Nkosi’s bail application is expected to provide further insight into the state’s case against him, as well as the nature of the evidence linking him to the allegations under investigation.
