The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the North West has declined to confirm whether additional suspects will be arrested in the high-profile corruption case involving senior former Transnet executives.
NPA spokesperson Henry Mamothame stated that, for now, the investigation will remain focused on the four accused: Anoj Singh, Brian Molefe, Siyabonga Gama, and Thamsanqa Jiyane.
All four appeared in the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Gauteng on Monday and were each granted bail of R50,000.
They are facing charges of corruption, fraud, and money laundering related to a R93 million locomotive procurement tender awarded in 2015. The tender forms part of a broader R54 billion deal that has been linked to state capture networks involving the controversial Gupta family.
This case is one of several stemming from the findings of the Zondo Commission, which uncovered widespread malfeasance in state-owned entities during the so-called “state capture” era. Transnet, under the leadership of the accused at the time, was one of the primary SOEs implicated.
The NPA has indicated that the investigation remains ongoing.
