Three people have been taken in for questioning in connection with the murder of Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras.
The 40-year-old former Gagasi FM presenter was shot and killed in the Johannesburg CBD on Tuesday. The incident occurred at the Zambesi building, a mixed-use residential and commercial property, where police were called to the scene following reports of gunfire.
Johannesburg Mayoral Committee Member for Public Safety, Mgcini Tshwaku, confirmed that investigators have identified a woman as a person of interest in the case. The woman is alleged to be a former tenant at the Zambesi building, where DJ Warras was fatally shot.
Tshwaku says police are continuing to follow several leads, while forensic evidence and CCTV footage from the area are being analysed as part of the ongoing investigation. At this stage, the motive for the killing has not been confirmed.
Meanwhile, the African National Congress (ANC) has condemned the killing and is calling for the swift arrest and prosecution of those responsible for what it has described as a brutal and senseless murder.
ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu says the party is urging law enforcement agencies to act with urgency to ensure justice for Stock’s family, friends and supporters, adding that violent crime continues to undermine safety in South African cities.
DJ Warras was well known in the entertainment industry and had built a strong following during his time on Gagasi FM, with tributes continuing to pour in from colleagues and fans across the country.
