President Cyril Ramaphosa has confirmed in the National Council of Provinces that he met alleged Tembisa Hospital corruption kingpin Hangwani Maumela outside his Sandhurst home in 2024.

In his reply to oral questions Ramaphosa clarified that 47-years ago he was married to Maumela’s aunt, his father’s sister and they later divorced.

He added that he is appalled by the allegations against Maumela and has no contact or dealings with him.

“His aunt was my former wife of 47 years ago, It’s his aunt and he is really not my relative as such. I have encountered him, and you can make of what you like of it. Do I deal with him, do I sit down and meet with him, do I visit him at his house? No. Am I uphold at the allegations that are being made against him? Yes I am uphold.

As I walk pass that house, I know that it was built with the money (as it is alleged) that was not properly acquired and it is money that should have been spent on the health of our people,” says Ramaphosa.
