President Cyril Ramaphosa says measures are in place to ensure that Monday, 30 June, will be a normal working day despite planned anti-illegal immigration protests.
Responding to questions in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), Ramaphosa said law enforcement and security agencies are fully prepared to maintain public order and safeguard stability across the country.
He assured the council that government is committed to ensuring calm and order, adding that it does not anticipate any disruptions to normal economic activity or public services.
Ramaphosa said authorities will continue to monitor the situation closely and act swiftly against any unlawful behaviour that threatens public safety or infringes on the rights of others. He reiterated that while South Africans have the constitutional right to protest peacefully, all demonstrations must take place within the confines of the law.
