The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in KwaZulu-Natal has urged grant beneficiaries to remain vigilant and safeguard their personal information during the festive season.

According to SASSA KZN spokesperson Mbizeni Mdlalose, it is especially important for beneficiaries to report any suspicious activity immediately, as the festive period is often marked by an increase in fraud and scams targeting grant recipients.

The agency has also enhanced the customer experience at its service points by implementing Queue Management Systems aimed at reducing waiting times. In addition, complimentary Wi-Fi has been introduced to support access to digital services, while self-service kiosks allow beneficiaries to apply for grants, update their contact details and complete biometric verification processes with greater ease.

Mdlalose said a major milestone for the agency has been the introduction of fingerprint and facial recognition technology, which is matched against biometric data captured by the Department of Home Affairs. This measure is intended to strengthen security, prevent identity fraud and ensure that grants are paid to the rightful beneficiaries.

He further warned beneficiaries not to share their secret PINs or personal details with strangers, including individuals who claim to offer assistance with grant applications or payments. SASSA has reiterated that its services are free of charge and urged the public to report any suspected fraud or corruption to the relevant authorities.
