The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has confirmed reports of an apparent hit targeting controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi in Vosloorus, on Gauteng’s East Rand, last night.

It’s believed that unknown gunmen opened fire on Mogotsi’s vehicle, although it remains unclear at this stage whether he was inside the car at the time of the attack.

Mogotsi’s name has featured prominently in ongoing investigations into alleged corruption and misconduct within the South African Police Service.

The commission’s spokesperson, Jeremy Michaels, told the national broadcaster that the commission is deeply concerned about Mogotsi’s safety and the potential implications for their work.

“We are extremely worried about what appears to be an attempt to intimidate or silence key figures connected to the inquiry. The safety of all individuals assisting or linked to the commission is paramount, and we are engaging law enforcement to ensure that adequate protection measures are in place,” Michaels said.
