National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has confirmed that Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya has been placed on a leave of absence.

This development follows explosive allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi last week, implicating Sibiya in apparent interference with police operations in the province.

Masemola addressed the media in Durban after receiving a memorandum of demands from civil society organisations during a #HandsOffMkhwanazi march. He called for calm, urging citizens to “behave and let the law take its course.”

The march, which drew hundreds of supporters, was organised by civic groups and attended by political parties including the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party and the African Transformation Movement (ATM).
