The evidence leader Adila Hassim has told the Madlanga commission of inquiry that witness X’s statement reveals businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala circulated confidential records containing identity numbers of high-profile figures.
The records containing the President’s personal details were reportedly sent via WhatsApp by a former police officer.
The commission has heard that these were among extensive chats obtained from Matlala’s phone during a police search.
Hassim says that the testimony also shows that Matlala communicated with businessman Suleiman Kareem about his health services tender, sharing police invoicing screenshots and discussing multimillion-rand payments.
“Major General Senona forwards a News24 article alleging a tender fraud by Mr Matlala in relation to the R360 million contract, between Medicare24 and the SAPS for health services. This is followed by a series of phone calls between Mr Matlala and Major General Senona on same day,” says Kareem.
