ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa says 2026 will be a decisive year for fixing local government and stabilising the economy.
He was delivering the closing address following the African National Congress’s three-day National Executive Committee (NEC) Lekgotla, held in Boksburg, Gauteng, on Sunday.
Ramaphosa emphasised that the coming period marks a shift from planning to implementation, describing it as a “year of action” for the governing party. He said the ANC would intensify its focus on improving governance at the municipal level, strengthening service delivery and accelerating economic growth.
According to Ramaphosa, the Lekgotla outlined specific tasks to be carried out across six priority areas identified by the ANC’s National General Council. These include rebuilding local government capacity, growing the economy and creating jobs, addressing the energy and logistics crises, strengthening the fight against corruption, improving the effectiveness of the state, and advancing social cohesion.
He said the resolutions adopted at the Lekgotla would guide the work of ANC deployees in government as the party seeks to restore public confidence ahead of the next local government elections.
