The African National Congress (ANC) has dismissed AfriForum’s so-called “Mbalula dossier” as a politically motivated attack on its secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula.
The dossier, reportedly compiled by AfriForum, is understood to contain allegations relating to governance and conduct. However, the ANC maintains that the claims are unsubstantiated and form part of a broader attempt to discredit senior leaders within the party.
In a strongly worded response, the ANC accused AfriForum of acting as a foreign-aligned organisation that seeks to undermine South Africa’s sovereignty and derail post-apartheid transformation. The party has, in the past, criticised AfriForum for taking domestic issues to international platforms, arguing that such actions damage the country’s democratic institutions and global standing.
The ANC reaffirmed its full confidence in Mbalula, as well as in its national leadership, and rejected what it described as a coordinated campaign aimed at weakening the movement ahead of key political processes.
ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu said the party remains focused on its core priorities, including defending national sovereignty, advancing economic transformation, and improving the lives of all South Africans.
The development comes amid heightened political tensions, with civil society groups and political parties increasingly clashing over issues of accountability, governance, and the pace of reform in the country.
