Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says the US–Israel war against Iran is another example of what he describes as the failure of the international order.
His remarks come as the United States reports striking more than 1,700 targets in Iran since launching military operations over the weekend. Washington says the strikes are aimed at degrading Iran’s military infrastructure and curbing its nuclear capabilities.
Tehran has retaliated with a wave of attacks across parts of the Middle East, raising fears of a broader regional conflict involving key global powers and armed groups aligned with Iran.
Carney said that while Canada regards Iran’s nuclear programme as a serious global threat, Ottawa is urging all parties to pursue a rapid de-escalation of hostilities and return to diplomatic engagement to prevent further destabilisation of the region.
The escalating conflict has prompted renewed international calls for restraint amid concerns over civilian casualties, global energy security and the risk of a prolonged war.
