Businessman Suliman Carrim has told the Madlanga Commission that he was taken advantage of by controversial businessmen Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and Brown Mogotsi.
Carrim said he invested R10 million in what he believed was a lucrative medical services tender after Matlala claimed to have secured a contract linked to the South African Police Service (SAPS).
According to Carrim, he was assured that the investment would yield significant returns and that the funds would be repaid within a short period.
However, he told the commission that those promises were never honoured, and he eventually realised that he had been misled about the legitimacy of the deal.
Carrim also rejected claims that he has any relationship with suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, saying he does not know the minister and has never had dealings with him.
The Madlanga Commission is probing allegations of corruption and irregularities linked to police contracts and the involvement of private business figures.
