The government has welcomed the latest data from Statistics South Africa, showing that the country’s economy grew by 1.1% in 2025, with gross domestic product (GDP) rising by 0.4% in the fourth quarter, between October and December.
The figures mark the fifth consecutive quarter of economic growth, signalling a gradual recovery in economic activity.
According to the statistics agency, key sectors driving the expansion included finance, trade, personal services, agriculture and government services. Growth in these sectors was supported by stronger household spending and increased investment during the final quarter of the year.
Acting government spokesperson Nomonde Mnukwa said the data reflects steady progress in stabilising the economy.
Mnukwa added that ongoing structural reforms and policy interventions by the government are aimed at strengthening economic performance, improving investor confidence and supporting sustainable growth in the years ahead.
