KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Sipho Hlomuka says all systems are in place for the 2026 May/June National Senior Certificate (NSC) and Senior Certificate (SC) examinations.
Hlomuka briefed the media in Durban North on Monday, saying the examinations represent more than just an academic assessment, but also offer second chances, fresh starts and opportunities for thousands of candidates across the province.
The NSC examinations will be written by candidates who completed matric from 2008 onwards, while the SC examinations are aimed at candidates who completed matric before 2008 and wish to improve their results or obtain a qualification.
Hlomuka said the department was committed to ensuring that the examinations are conducted in a fair, credible and secure manner. He added that security measures would be strengthened at all examination centres to prevent question paper leaks and other forms of irregularities.
“This opportunity gives a second chance to those who did not succeed, as well as to first-time exam writers, whether young or old. That is why we are not focused only on children studying full-time, but on education for everyone, regardless of age. As a department, we want to make sure that there is integrity and that there are no people who will cheat,” said Hlomuka.
The department has encouraged candidates to prepare thoroughly and comply with all examination regulations to ensure a smooth and successful examination period.
