EFF leader Julius Malema says Africa cannot claim to fully support liberation while the issue of Western Sahara remains unresolved.
Speaking at the EFF Africa Day Summit in Pretoria, Malema said the struggle of the Sahrawi people for self-determination continues under what he described as Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara.
He argued that African nations have a responsibility to support liberation movements across the continent and ensure that the principles of sovereignty, human rights and self-determination are upheld.
Malema also warned that ongoing conflicts in countries including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan and Somalia continue to threaten regional stability and undermine economic development across Africa.
He said instability, armed conflict and political interference in African states have contributed to humanitarian crises, displacement and growing insecurity in several regions of the continent.
The EFF leader called for stronger African-led peace-building institutions and improved regional cooperation to address instability and conflict without overreliance on foreign powers.
Malema further urged African leaders to strengthen the African Union’s conflict resolution mechanisms and prioritise unity, economic independence and political solidarity among African nations.
