ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says the party must act with urgency, determination, and courage to ensure that its renewal process is both visible and irreversible.
Mbalula was addressing delegates at the national congress of the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, on Tuesday. His remarks come at a time of growing political uncertainty within the governing alliance.
He acknowledged tensions following the decision by the South African Communist Party (SACP) to contest the upcoming local government elections independently. Despite this, Mbalula insisted that the tripartite alliance, comprising the ANC, SACP, and COSATU, would endure.
“The alliance will not perish,” Mbalula said, adding that internal differences should not derail the broader objectives of advancing the interests of South Africans.
His comments underscore mounting pressure on the ANC to rebuild public trust and demonstrate tangible progress in its renewal efforts, particularly ahead of the next electoral cycle.
