The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has removed its national spokesperson and Member of Parliament, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, with immediate effect.
The party announced that Ndhlela will be replaced by Sifiso Mahlangu, the former editor of The Star newspaper, who recently stepped down from his media role.
The leadership reshuffle follows developments over the weekend in which Ndhlela read a statement indicating that the newly established MK Institute would assume full control over the party’s leadership structures and operations.
However, MK Party Secretary-General Sibonelo Nomvalo has rejected the claims, saying the institute does not have the constitutional authority to alter the roles of national officials or place party structures under its oversight.
Nomvalo said the party’s constitution clearly outlines how leadership decisions are made and stressed that no external structure or institute may override established party processes.
The MK Institute, which was recently formed, has reportedly been positioned as a political and ideological platform aligned with the party. Its role and influence within the organisation have, however, become a source of internal debate.
