The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) has activated a comprehensive operational plan in response to recent unrest in parts of the country linked to concerns over undocumented migrants.
The plan focuses on three key areas: enhanced police visibility and rapid deployment capabilities, intelligence-led operations, and targeted crime-combatting interventions aimed at maintaining law and order.
Authorities say several identified hotspots, including parts of the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape, are being closely monitored, with law enforcement agencies on high alert to prevent further unrest and criminal activity.
Acting National Police Commissioner Puleng Dimpane says security forces remain committed to protecting communities while ensuring that the law is enforced without fear or favour.
Dimpane has warned that no grievance or concern can justify criminal behaviour, adding that acts of murder, destruction of property, xenophobic attacks and other forms of violence will not be tolerated. She says those found to be engaging in unlawful conduct will face the full might of the law.
NATJOINTS has urged residents to remain calm and to report any criminal activity to the relevant authorities, while efforts continue to restore stability in affected areas.
