The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has denied reports that the Investigative Directorate Against Corruption (Idac) has reached a plea agreement with corruption and attempted murder accused Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala.
This follows a report published by the Sunday Times claiming that Matlala is prepared to provide evidence implicating several individuals in a wide-ranging corruption investigation linked to his company, Medicare 24 Tshwane District.
According to the report, Matlala is allegedly seeking leniency in exchange for cooperating with investigators and assisting authorities in uncovering details related to the alleged corruption network.
However, NPA spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago told the SABC that no plea agreement has been finalised. He confirmed that engagements are currently taking place between Idac and Matlala, but stressed that discussions do not amount to a concluded deal.
“The engagements should not be interpreted as a plea agreement,” Kganyago said, reiterating that the matter remains under discussion.
Matlala is facing charges relating to corruption and attempted murder, with the case attracting significant public attention due to the alleged scale of the corruption probe and the individuals reportedly linked to it.
