President Cyril Ramaphosa has removed Sisisi Tolashe as Minister of Social Development.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Presidency confirmed that Sindisiwe Chikunga will serve as acting minister with immediate effect, pending the appointment of a permanent replacement.
The announcement follows mounting controversy within the department. On Wednesday, the Department of Social Development suspended Tolashe’s special advisor, Ngwako Kgatla, after a Public Service Commission investigation found that he had allegedly manipulated the CV of a relative in order to secure her appointment as Tolashe’s private secretary.
Tolashe is also facing allegations that she redirected a donation of vehicles intended for the ANC Women’s League to her children. The former minister has denied the claims during appearances before Parliament.
